How YWCA TechGYRLS makes a difference

Got this information from State Rep Mike Sturla’s Facebook page:

“Afterschool STEM Programs
According to PSAYDN survey of more than 1,600 fifth grade students who participated in after school STEM programs, 79% improved in overall academic performance, 62% improved their behavior in the classroom, 91% had better attendance records, and 93% had satisfactory or above grades in science.”

Programs like YWCA Lancaster TechGYRLS helps get girls excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. Women are still grossly underrepresented in the workforce, but getting kids excited about STEM does more than make them a math wiz.  It helps with behavior, attendance and over academic performance.
