What is happening ? Why are communities burning ?
Its 2020, we are in the middle of a global pandemic, 40 million Americans are out of work and we’ve watched the murder of George Floyd on our televisions, phones and computers. We need to talk about what is happening when there are protests against police violence in all 50 states and around the world. How do we understand this point in time? What are the macro level messages that white Americans need to hear?
CEO YWCA Pittsburgh
YWCA Lancaster CEO Stacie Blake will facilitate a discussion with:
Angela Reynolds, newly installed as the YWCA Pittsburgh CEO and former adjunct professor in the Public Policy and International Affairs program at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College.
Tanay Lynn Harris a former national organizer at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, who leveraged legal support in Ferguson during the Uprising, to protect the rights of protesters and the community and was a member of the Baltimore Legal Defense Fund during the Baltimore Uprising that became the Black Movement Law Project.
Todd Mealy the founder of the Equity Institute for Race Conscious Pedagogy, LLC, an author and teacher with a new book, Race Conscious Pedagogy: Disrupting Racism at Majority White High Schools coming out in November.
To create change we must first understand what is happening in our community now. This is the first of three planned dialogues hosted by YWCA Lancaster with a diversity of voices included.
