Martin Luther King Day Celebration

Join us as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a children’s book reading to inspire young activists to make a more equitable future together! We will have cupcakes, crafts, and more! Registration is required to attend the event!

Reading will take place in the main lobby and activities will be provided in the Maureen Powers Room at YWCA Lancaster. 

Community members will be reading “Child of the Civil Rights Movement” By Paula Young Shelton

  • 9-10am: Dominique Miller-Shell
  • 10-11am: Liz Sydnor, Eurofins
  • 10:30-11am: Gretchel Hathaway, YWCA Board Member (will be reading “Antiracist Baby”)
  • 11-12pm: Barbara Wilson, Lancaster City Housing Authority
  • 12-1pm: Rep. Ismail Smith Wade-El

 

Parents can pick from the following books from YWCA Lancaster when they register to take home, while supplies last:
Infant-toddler: Antiracist Baby by Ibram X Kendi
Pre-K-3rd grade: Child of the Civil Rights Movement By: Paula Young Shelton and Raul Colon
4th-6th grade: Martin Rising By: Andrea Davis Pinkney
