Parent Education Program

YWCA Lancaster’s Parent Education Program is a court-mandated service provided to Lancaster County parents who have an open case with Lancaster County Children & Youth Social Service Agency.

Parent Educators partner with parents to develop skills needed to successfully raise their children in a healthy and nurturing environment. Recognizing that the parent is the expert on his or her child, Parent Educators come alongside parents to support their goals and empower them to be the role model in their child’s life.

  • For families in the Family Support Unit, the goal is to avoid out-of-home placement and/or prolonged involvement with the Children & Youth Social Service Agency.
  • For families in the Permanency Unit, the goal is to support reunification and assist in the transition of children returning to their homes.

SERVICES

Parent Educators provide dignifying and empowering home visitation services including:

  • Weekly visit with the family
  • Learning and strengths-based assessments to tailor coaching
  • Family empowerment to implement new habits and strategies in their parenting capacity
  • Assistance with skill development like child nurturing, budgeting, resource location, home organization, understanding of child development and play skills, positive discipline and limit setting, self-esteem development, and more.

Parent Educators typically partner with parents for 3-6 months, however extensions may be arranged on a case-to-case basis.
