The HAArt Project:
Amplifying Art to combat Sexual Harassment, Abuse & Assault

The HAArt Project is a part of April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month (#saam). The project aims to be a powerful and creative outlet for loved ones and survivors of sexual harassment, abuse and assault to share their experiences through expressive art. Research supports that expressive arts is a way for survivors to convey what is often unspeakable, to explore and transform emotions related to their traumatic experiences. The HAArt Project encourages survivors to restructure and reframe, explore and illustrate their trauma in this empowering way.

About the Project

The HAArt Project is a daily virtual art exhibit and artist spotlight via YWCA Lancaster’s social media pages during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (#saam). Anyone impacted by sexual trauma is encouraged to submit expressive art related to their experience to spread awareness and build community during the month of April. Submissions may include: poetry, painting, drawing, digital art, photography, fiber art, performance art, animation, short stories and more.

Deadline for 1st round of SAAM posts and potential selection for SAAM yard signs: March 19;  deadline for 2nd round of posts: April 15.
