Facebook Live Storytime Series

Please join educator, Danielle Perez, virtually with any child in your life, Thursdays at noon on our Facebook page as we read stories live and share potential activities to do together.

ALSO: We are excited to say that the live storytime will continue! Please share this information with your family and friends who may have missed the stories! As a reminder, the stories are available to watch again on our Facebook page, under our “videos” tab.

Rev Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Join us for a community wide celebration of the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a book reading, refreshments and fun activities for children.

What:  Kids, ages from birth to age 12, will be able to make crafts relating to peace, diversity and the life of Dr. King. We will be playing excerpts from his most famous speeches. There will also be book readings and children in attendance will receive their own copy of the book used for their reading. Light refreshments will be served.

Cost:   FREE – but we do request that you RSVP at https://ywcalancaster.org/mlkday/

When: Monday January 20, 2020.

Activities take place on the hour from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Ask the Preventionist

On March 26, 10-12pm, Danielle Perez, a YWCA Lancaster trained sexual assault counselor and preventionist, will host an information table about the upcoming series “Body Safety Storytime and Crafts.” It will be “ask the preventionist style,” and take place at the Lancaster Public Library, on the second floor in the children’s library.

Sexual Assault Counselor and Educator Danielle Perez will be at the Lancaster Public Library for book reading and crafts with a focus on raising awareness on body safety and boundaries.

Topics are appropriate for all ages, interactive and family friendly.

  • April 24 – 6-7 p.m.: School Age kids.

Not Alone: Uniting Stories of Survivors

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness month, YWCA Lancaster in collaboration with LANCASTER STORY SLAM hosts a night of storytelling and spoken word sharing survivors’ stories of sexual violence.

This event takes place at ZOETROPOLIS, 112 North Water Street

April 9, 7 – 9 p.m.

This is a pay as you can event. Suggested price is $10 – $20 per person.

Storytelling Workshop

Join local author, storyteller, and Story Slam veteran Jamie Beth Cohen in a two hour workshop focused on the art of crafting your story.

Jamie Beth Cohen is a writer and storyteller who works in higher education. She is a frequent participant and past winner of Lancaster Story Slam and has appeared in the Word of Mouth storytelling series at The Bucks County Playhouse. She has written for TeenVogue, The Washington Post, Salon and many other outlets. Her debut novel, WASTED PRETTY will be published by Black Rose Writing in April 2019. Set in Pittsburgh in 1992, WASTED PRETTY is the story of a sixteen-year-old girl who faces wanted and unwanted attention when she inadvertently goes from blending in to standing out. www.JamieBethCohen.com
