As an artist, advocate, and Founder/CEO of the community organization, Speak to My Soul, Evita Colon seeks to empower, educate, and elevate the voices of the Black and Brown communities in Lancaster. Speak to My Soul exists to provide a platform for artists of color to use their talents to creatively tell their stories through hosting events, creating productions, and facilitating programs in Lancaster. Harnessing the storytelling power of the performing arts, these initiatives raise awareness of crucial issues such as poverty, injustice, unemployment, and education as they strengthen and encourage marginalized members of our community to creatively share their journey and experience. For her work within the community, in 2017 Evita was granted the Presidential Social Justice Award by the Lancaster branch of the NAACP
Evita is the creator of, Speak to my Soul: A Montage of Voices which uses song, dance, and spoken word to voice the stories of the black experience over the span of generations. Notably, she has also been featured in Huffington Post, LancasterOnline, and published on BET.com by Black Girls Rock!
