The GIANT Company Provides $25,000 to YWCA Lancaster’s new Center for Racial and Gender Equity

Lancaster, Pa. (December 17, 2020) – YWCA Lancaster’s Center for Racial and Gender Equity (CRGE) welcomes The GIANT Company as a Founding Partner. The GIANT Company’s support comes as it continues its work to support local community organizations dedicated to racial equality and advancing diversity and inclusion.“The GIANT Company is proud to be the Founding Partner of YWCA Lancaster’s Center for Racial and Gender Equity,” said Aaysha Noor, head of diversity and inclusion, The GIANT Company. “As a purpose-driven company, we work tirelessly to deliver on our purpose of connecting families for a better future. Together with YWCA Lancaster, we will do just that by creating a better, more equitable tomorrow for the families we serve across the community.”The Center for Racial and Gender Equity will focus on three functional areas across the county; community engagement, training and education, and research and advocacy as we listen, learn and lead together with the Lancaster community. The CRGE was conceived in the early days of intersection between the pandemic and the public protests calling for racial justice and is the vision of the CEO of YWCA Lancaster, Stacie Blake. “Our historic building opened during a pandemic in 1918. We are as determined as those early women leaders to meet our community's needs as they evolve. With support from The GIANT Company, we can more fully realize our dream of developing inclusive youth leaders as we meet the calls of this generation to work together in creating just communities at all levels. We are grateful to The GIANT Company for their support and demonstration of their commitment to racial equity and setting the bar for corporations across the region.”The GIANT Company joins Willow Valley Communities and Lancaster County Community Foundation as founding supporters of the work of the CRGE.  In 2021 we will host the 23rd annual Race Against Racism with new additions to highlight our mission in Lancaster.About YWCA LancasterYWCA Lancaster is dedicated to the elimination of racism, the empowerment of women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.  Since 1889 we have served children and adults in the community through a variety of programs.  Current offerings include the Racial Equity Institute, Dorothy Height Book Club and Community Now dialogues on current topics; Kepler Hall residence, home to fifty women, men and children; YWonderful Kids providing child enrichment for ages six weeks to five years and before/after school care in a number of settings; Sexual Assault Prevention and Counseling Center with a 24-hour hotline and no-cost professional counseling for survivors of sexual assault and their significant others.
