YWCA Lancaster Hosts a “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” Event in Lancaster on June 21, Register Now!
Lancaster, Pa. (June 3, 2019) – YWCA Lancaster is proud to present a “Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” event coming to Tellus360 on Friday June 21. Registration starts at 4 p.m. with the walk stepping off at 6 p.m. in Penn Square.Historically, "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” has been an international movement for men specifically, to raise awareness in their respective communities about how sexual violence has affected women. Gratefully, over the years, this event has proven to be so much more, with engagement from many others to become allies and understand that sexual violence isn't experienced by just one group of people.Today, we attempt to take a much greater stride with our awareness, stepping out for sexual violence as it affects all members of our community regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, or age. Walking a mile in high heels is symbolic of the challenges faced every day by members of our community whose journey includes constant vigilance against the possibility of a sexual assault, violence in their home, or for some, their path of healing following an assault. The proceeds from this event go to the Sexual Assault Prevention and Counseling Center (SAPCC) at YWCA Lancaster. SAPCC provides professional trauma based counseling, medical and legal advocacy, and a 24-hour sexual assault hotline for victim survivors and their family members. All services are provided at no cost!To get involved, we are encouraging anyone 16 and older, to register for YWCA Lancaster Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, to raise money on behalf of victim survivors of sexual assault; adults and children of all genders.Once you have registered for the event you will be prompted to set up a fundraising page. From there you may utilize social media tools to reach your contacts, family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. The success of this event depends on the fundraising efforts of our allies and advocates, and we make it easy to raise money!Following the walk there will be an after-party at Tellus360 complete with food, drink and foot massages. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
